Up Late

I did some shop business last night after everyone was in bed and got some cozy goodies up for sale!  It was so windy this weekend, and the windchill got down to -25 degrees here!  I know spring is coming in many places, but we're still bracing ourselves for more snow.  :(

This bad boy is my favorite, I wear it all the time and it makes my day.  The compliments I get when I wear it make me smile too.  :)

And this bad boy didn't last through church and was sold before service even started (where we were taking the pictures).  But I'll get another one made for the shop for sure!

Everybody is God's Somebody

If you're a crochetter or knitter, and want to help out.  Check out the Special Olympics Scarf Project.  They are collecting scarfs to hand out to all their athletes at their winter games.  It's been difficult for me to find their specific Red Heart colors, but I was lucky enough to be able to pick up a couple of skeins at the office right down the street from our house.  It's such a good cause, think about helping out!

Unfortunate events...

Yesterday I went to the dentist.  I am bad, and I haven't gone in 5 (eek!) years.  I told the hygienist that I don't floss often (double eek!) because I feel like I'm going to pull out my in-between fillings.  She said not to worry about that.  That I can't just pull those things out.

Last night, I was flossing like a good girl.  And on the third tooth, I pulled out a huge filling.  Bleh.  Dentist again tomorrow now.

I'm also waiting for the nurse to call me back, so that I can make an appointment for a slightly swollen two on my left foot, the middle of my right foot that goes numb from time to time, and a stiff neck that I've had for 6 days now.

What a series of unfortunate events.

End whine-fest.

Granny Chic

Last night I laid in my warm toasty bed for 6 hours.  I didn't sleep during those hours, because I had two other snorer's right next to me.  And I didn't want to get up incase sleep suddenly found me (ya right).  So I somehow got stuck on pin cushions, and stick pins.  Random right?!

Love these mini-pin cushions.  I asked the hubby to bring me home some plastic bottle tops.

And these are so pretty.

And these got me then thinking about stick pins too.

Turns out decorating stick pins are so easy!  I got ideas with this tutorial.

Bonus, I already had everything I needed for this!  For my pin cushion I found a scrap of striped material and bunched it up, then covered it with a yoyo, and a couple of buttons.  I didn't wrap it with embroidery floss to make the "pumpkin" shape, and I like it better that way I think.  And super bonus, I already had tons of beads, pins, and E6000!  I used corsage pins (much longer than regular stick pins so I'd have extra space for beads) and "extra long dressmaker pins" (they are 1 5/16" without a bead on the end).

And I love them!  My pin cushion looks so happy now!  I can't wait to sew something else up!

Faker's Twine

Baker's twine in every color is lovely.  But, I know I have hoarding tendencies and I have to restrict myself.  For this reason, I have never bought pretty baker's twine.  However, I still have pretty twine!  Kind of.

I followed these directions, and viola!  Can you imagine, custom twine for all your needs!  And something to do with all those scraps of yarn!  Grey yarn, yellow thread!  Teal yarn, white thread!  Orange yarn, red thread!  Ack!

I wrapped my twine around these pretty burp cloths I made for the little girls that were all born at church within the last two weeks.

On my list

My crafting list is ever-growing.  This is what I found this week.

Homemade bakers twine.  I can never have enough.

Moving all the time with the military, I've come to terms with the fact that my door post will never have hash marks of Ava's growth through the years, but I can take something with me, if I ever get around to making this awesome supersized tape measure growth chart.

And I'm so excited to hear that Eddie's brother and sister in law are preggers again.  It has nothing to do with the fact that I want to make this blankie!

Valentine's Day Shenanigans

The shenanigans started yesterday.  Eddie picked out some pretty roses and tulips for Ava and I.  That girl loves to stick her face in the middle smell them.

And we are both dorks, and didn't want to wait until today to exchange our cards, so we did it before church.  I love it.  Eddie made Ava and I these.

And I made Eddie and Ava little books of love.

This morning after he left for work this was my morning, coffee, flowers, and a little mad scientist baking (to come a little later).

Chocolate chip cookie, brownie, oreo, yum.

Ava woke up and got her felt valentine's.  She destroyed one within 5 minutes. But, it's the only felt she's ever torn apart.  So win?

Fish tacos are on the menu for later tonight, and I think there are plans to break out the massage table if Ava goes to sleep at a reasonable hour.

Can't wait...

to give this a try!

It's a good thing I can read a diagram, because I don't speak french!

Two Years in the Making!

I need to scrap in the moment.  If it doesn't get done within a week, it's probably not going to be scrapped.  This weekend I started on reorganizing my crap scrap, again, and came across this travel album, again.  I fanned out all the products, and took a picture on my phone to post on facebook.  I thought I was going to post a picture and give it away once and for all.  But like every other time I got it out to give it away or throw it away, I ended up touching all the papers and loving it all over again.

Earlier that day I had spent enough money to feed a small village on new photo paper and ink, and Eddie was spending the evening out with the guys.  I had no excuses.  My goal was simple, get photos on paper.  I had to let go of perfectionism, and planning out page by page.  I didn't edit in photoshop, I just selected the pictures I liked in iPhoto, cropped them square, and printed them 8x8.  Less (and by less I mean zero) page space means less space to pine over what embellishments to use.  I wrote about what I remembered, and stuck stuff where it felt okay.  I didn't worry about design, or balance, just that nothing looked too off, and everything was in chronological order.  (In 20 years I won't care if my labels are crooked, I hope I'll just be happy I have a book to flip through to jog memories.)  In the throws of my "getter done" mentality, I actually glued a page on top of another one that had finished (and thought was one of the cutest out of the bunch).  Fail.  But I marched on, and am so happy I did.
